Microsoft Teams Walkie Talkie

As Microsoft Teams becomes more and more popular, Microsoft is continuing to develop and push out new features to the user experience. Microsoft’s latest addition to Teams is going to be a Walkie Talkie feature, and many other new capabilities for the first line workers and any event organisers.

According to Microsoft the Walkie Talkie feature will function just as you expect a Walkie Talkie to, with the “push-to-talk” capabilities, and will be coming as a private preview in the first half of this year. Once available, it will be native and located right inside the Teams app, and will apparently have a new button in the bottom bar of Microsoft Teams on iOS and Android apps.

Microsoft is saying users will get “clear, instant, and secure voice communication over the cloud,” when using it. This means the feature appears to be more secure when compared to traditional walkie talkies, as only the members of the Team will have access to the channel, and instead of using direct radio communication it happens over secure WiFi or Mobile data connection over the internet. Microsoft also reports users won’t experience cross-talk or be subject to eavesdropping from outsiders.

I can see this new feature i can see certainly for my company industry being used at events and other large gatherings where instant communication is required, and for them moments when an email/sms/message/WhatsApp… just doesn’t get your message or point across quick enough.

Very much looking forward to this one, well done Microsoft.
